Jesus
Who Jesus Is, Why He Came, and Why He Matters
Jesus is God incarnate—God who took on human flesh and entered His creation. He is the eternal Word, the Logos, the ultimate revelation of God to humanity. As John says, “the Word became flesh and dwelt among us” (John 1:14).
Jesus is not merely a reflection of God. He is God. He perfectly reveals the Father because He shares the very nature of God. He said, “Whoever has seen Me has seen the Father” (John 14:9).
Jesus is the Light of the World, the perfect and sinless man, and the fulfillment of what humanity was created to be. Where Adam failed through disobedience, Jesus remained perfectly obedient to the Father. Scripture describes Him as the “last Adam” (1 Corinthians 15:45), through whom God brings life.
In the Beginning
Jesus was there in the beginning, and He has always existed. He is not a created being, but the eternal Son of God. He is one with the Father and the Holy Spirit—Father, Son, and Spirit: three distinct Persons, yet one God.
Together, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit reveal the fullness of the one true God—a God who is perfect in love, holiness, wisdom, and unity.
Jesus is:
Christ / Messiah — The “Anointed One,” the promised King and Savior sent by God.
Immanuel — Meaning “God with us.” Jesus is God dwelling among humanity (Matthew 1:23).
Alpha and Omega — The beginning and the end, expressing His eternal nature and sovereign authority over all things (Revelation 1:8; 22:13).
Lamb of God — Jesus is the Lamb who gave Himself as the sacrifice for sin, bearing our sins and bringing reconciliation between God and humanity (John 1:29; 1 Peter 2:24).
Bread of Life — Jesus is the source of true spiritual life. Whoever comes to Him will never ultimately hunger or thirst (John 6:35).
Light of the World — Jesus brings light into the darkness, revealing truth and showing humanity the way to God (John 8:12).
Good Shepherd — Jesus knows His sheep, cares for them, protects them, and laid down His life for them (John 10:11–15).
King of Kings — Jesus possesses supreme authority and will ultimately reign over all creation (Revelation 19:16).
vJesus Himself said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life” (John 14:6). No one comes to the Father except through Him. Jesus did not simply show us a way back to God—He is the way. Through His death and resurrection, He made reconciliation with God possible. To know Jesus is to know life, because life is found in Him. Jesus described Himself as the vine and His followers as the branches: “He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing” (John 15:5).
Jesus is not merely a conduit through which God’s life flows. He is the source of life. All creation came into being through Him and for Him. As Scripture says, “All things were created through Him and for Him” (Colossians 1:16).
From the beginning, Jesus was there. Through Him all things were created. He entered His creation, took on flesh, lived among us, died for our sins, rose from the dead, and opened the way for us to be reconciled to God.
Jesus is not simply part of the story of God. He is at the center of it.
In this section, we will discover who Jesus is—and why He matters.
