The Gift of Marriage

Marriage is a beautiful gift and blessing from God. It is a temporary institution meant for our time here on earth, not something that will carry over into Heaven. Understanding the purpose behind this gift helps us value it more deeply.
One of the primary reasons God gave us marriage was to fulfill His command to “be fruitful and multiply.” Through marriage, God chose to expand His creation and fill the earth with life.
Another reason is companionship. God saw that it was not good for man to be alone, and He created woman to be a partner. While we can’t experience perfect, sinless unity on this side of Heaven, marriage offers us a meaningful relationship despite our imperfections.
Marriage also serves as a reflection—a glimpse—of the relationship God desires to have with us. When a husband and wife love each other rightly, with grace, patience, and selflessness, it reveals something of the depth and beauty of God's love.
Ultimately, when God is the foundation, the love between two people brings Him glory. It’s like two trees planted in the same soil, drawing life and strength from the same source—God’s perfect love—and sharing that love with one another. Without Him, it's like two trees trying to survive off each other alone, slowly withering under the weight of unmet needs. All we can do is hold on.
Marriage is not just about happiness, but about holiness. It shapes us, humbles us, and points us back to the One who first loved us.
