What We Are Fighting For

Christians, before Jesus found us, we were lost—blind and stumbling in the darkness of ignorance. But then He came, shining His light into our lives, revealing our sinful state and the path we were on—one that led to eternal separation from God. In His mercy, He showed us the door to life. Jesus entered this world, forsook it, denied its temptations, and gave up His life so that we might be saved. He rescued us from the prison of darkness, opened the way to true freedom, and now calls us to do the same for others.

“Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.” — John 15:13

So what are we fighting for, Christians?

We are fighting for those who are still bound by this world—those who remain blind and lost in the shadows. We give up our lives for them because Christ gave up His for us.

If we are reluctant to accept the call to die to ourselves, to become soldiers for Christ as He was for the Father, and to enter the battle of faith—then it is to our shame. Such hesitation is not only disobedience; it is sin. It reveals a failure to grasp the weight and cost of what Christ endured for us. It’s like a man building you a mansion at no cost, and when he asks to stay for just one night, you shut the door in his face.

I often think about those who fought in the Vietnam War—many of them were dragged into a battle they didn’t believe in. They came out wounded, not just physically, but emotionally and mentally—victims of a war they never chose. Left with PTSD, many couldn’t reintegrate into the world they once knew. It must have been incredibly painful to leave behind their families, friends, jobs, and everything familiar, unsure of how long they’d be gone—or if they’d ever return.

But then there were those who believed in the cause. They returned as victors—not because they avoided pain, but because they embraced sacrifice. They were willing to leave everything behind for a greater purpose, even laying down their lives for others.

Christians, we too are soldiers—called to forsake this world and give our lives for the sake of another. Like those who went to war before us, we are not fighting aimlessly. We fight for the future. We fight to expand God’s kingdom. And we fight because we believe in the cause of Christ. If we live with that conviction, we won’t be victims of our faith—we’ll be victors through it.
