Proof of God
Life outside of Christ is existance without purpose
Why Evidence Alone Isn’t Enough—and How Faith Unlocks True Certainty
"But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him." ~ Hebrews 11:6
There is a way to find proof of God—but before we get there, we must first consider the evidence that points us in that direction.
I sometimes watch debates on YouTube about God’s existence. What often strikes me is how some Christian apologists assume that piling up enough evidence will eventually convince the skeptic. It’s as if evidence, once stacked high enough, automatically becomes proof. Yet these debates usually go in circles. The truth is, the last thing we should want is for someone to believe in God solely on the basis of intellectual persuasion. (1 Corinthians 2:5 – “so that your faith might not rest on human wisdom, but on God’s power”)
Does this mean a person must be unintelligent to believe in God? Certainly not. Rather, it reveals our human limitations. Even the greatest intellect cannot measure up to the infinite wisdom of God. (Romans 11:33 – “Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God!”) Intelligence—or the lack of it—has little to do with proving God’s existence. Evidence can guide a person toward Him, but it can also drive them away.
When we look at creation—the heavens and the earth, the stars, animals, and humans—and ask, Who made these? Or wrestle with questions like, What is the meaning of life? Why are we here? What happens when we die?; or consider where love, language, morality, and truth come from; or confront the reality of human evil, natural disasters, disease, death, and a world that seems to be fading—the atheist often points to these things as evidence against God. Yet this is like looking at a complex mathematical equation and declaring the answer wrong without offering a solution. (Psalm 19:1 – “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.”)
Atheists may claim there is no God, but they offer no satisfying explanation for the questions humans naturally ask. How do they justify what they live for? How do they explain the origins of truth, morality, and unconditional love? Often, they suggest these concepts evolved over time to help humanity survive. But that does not answer the deeper question: Where did these ideas originate? Who determines what is right or wrong? How did love arise, and what has grown from it? (1 John 4:8 – “God is love.”)
Atheists frequently blame believers for the evil in the world, as if human suffering—rape, murder, war, and countless atrocities—stems from faith in God. Yet much of human evil exists independent of religion. Even atheists recognize that humans have inner voids, unanswered questions, and tendencies toward selfishness, narcissism, and divisiveness—all of which contribute to moral failings. (Romans 3:23 – “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”)
Many atheists view life after death as nothing more than the human being recycled endlessly, with no ultimate purpose. Their strongest motivation often becomes leaving the world better for the next generation. But if that is the only goal, it is clearly failing, as the moral and physical deterioration of the world continues. (Hebrews 9:27 – “People are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment.”)
Atheists often point to evolution and the Big Bang theory to explain creation. Yet both are theories, each with limitations. Moreover, the foundation of these explanations—that something can come from nothing—mirrors the fundamental problem with atheism itself. Their worldview attempts to account for life, morality, and existence starting from “nothing,” offering little concrete evidence. In the end, atheists assert that there is no God, yet they ultimately admit that they do not truly know—demonstrating that their belief and disbelief alike are built on uncertainty. (Romans 1:20 – “For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities… have been clearly seen.”)

On the other hand, when we examine the same questions and realities through the lens of Christianity, they all point to God. God, who was not created and has always existed, is the Creator, Designer, and Sustainer of the world. (Genesis 1:1; Colossians 1:16-17) He is the source of truth, morality, love, and language. The evil we see in humanity is not the absence of God, but the rejection of Him by His creation. (Romans 1:21)
God seeks to teach His creation to trust Him through love and truth, so that we may live in unity with Him—submitted, surrendered, and at peace for all eternity. (John 14:6 – “I am the way and the truth and the life.”) This is a complex reality that humanity cannot fully comprehend, because our desire to be our own gods blinds us to it.
Careful examination of the evidence shows that only God makes sense of life. He gives existence meaning and purpose, even if we cannot fully grasp it in this lifetime. (Ecclesiastes 12:13 – “Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the duty of all mankind.”) Life on this side of Heaven allows us to see the evidence, recognize the fleetingness and emptiness of a world without God, and prepare us for eternity—where we will finally understand all that we need to know. (1 Corinthians 13:12 – “Now I know in part; then I shall know fully.”)
In the end, no one can definitively prove or disprove God’s existence. At best, we can point to evidence, but each person must ultimately decide what to believe. The atheist may insist there is no God, yet cannot claim absolute certainty. The Christian may affirm that God exists, yet cannot prove it beyond all doubt—only present evidence and bear witness through faith. (Hebrews 11:1 – “Faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.”)
I cannot prove God to you, for proof is not something one person can hand to another. It is a personal discovery, an accomplishment each of us must reach on our own. True proof comes only from God Himself, and that happens when we surrender and allow Him into our lives—through the experience of being born again. (John 3:3 – “No one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.”)
Yet the evidence around us points more toward God than toward nothing. This evidence, like gentle knocks on the door of the heart, invites us to seek Him. If we truly desire proof, we must open the door and let God in. (Revelation 3:20 – “I stand at the door and knock…”) Faith is the key that transforms evidence into the personal certainty of God’s reality. (Hebrews 11:6)
