The Search for Truth: Finding Jesus in a World of Confusion

Many people want to know whether Jesus truly existed and whether the claims that He is God, our Savior, and the source of our life are true. God has given us abundant evidence of His existence—in creation, in life, and in His Word—all pointing to the reality of Jesus Christ. The problem is not a lack of evidence, but that it is often buried beneath an overwhelming flood of information. In a world filled with countless voices, opinions, and claims, searching for the truth can feel like trying to untangle a billion tangled wires.

Again, it has been said that the most effective way to mislead people is not by arguing against the truth, but by burying it beneath such an overwhelming amount of information that it becomes difficult to find. Think about what a person has to weave through to try and discover the truth; it can be overwhelming.

In the World

If you seek the truth by looking only to the world, you must sort through millions of human opinions. Those opinions are often shaped by personal desires, greed, the pursuit of power, insecurity, the need for approval, past disappointments, pain, and personal experiences. Because we are finite and imperfect, our understanding is limited, and we often rely on one another to tell us what is true—even though we ourselves can be mistaken. At our best, we produce opinions, theories, hypotheses, and ideas—things that can be examined, debated, accepted, or rejected, but that do not become true simply because we believe them.

In Religion and Spirituality

If you seek truth through religion and spirituality, you encounter thousands of different belief systems, traditions, and interpretations, each claiming to offer answers about God, life, and eternity.

In Christianity

If you seek the truth within what is commonly called Christianity today, the search can sometimes become just as challenging. With the rise of movements that emphasize prosperity, guaranteed healing, or a better life through faith, along with churches shaped more by entertainment, emotional experiences, or the desire to please people, it can become difficult to discern what is truly biblical. Christianity itself contains thousands of denominations, with differences in theology, interpretation, and worship practices. For someone sincerely seeking truth, the many voices and disagreements can become confusing, frustrating, and even discouraging.

All these differing ideas can create deep division. We see countless disagreements where groups appear to contradict one another, each claiming that their understanding is the correct one while dismissing the beliefs of others. Instead of seeking truth together, people often argue, criticize, and sometimes even belittle those who disagree with them. For someone sincerely searching for answers, it can all become overwhelming. With so many conflicting voices, one must ask: What is a person to do?

I believe that much of this is driven by a mixture of motives. Some people may act with sincere and good intentions, while others may be influenced by deception, pride, or selfish desires. As Scripture teaches, there is a real spiritual battle taking place, and the enemy seeks to deceive, divide, and lead people away from the truth of God. At times, people can unknowingly become influenced by these deceptions while also being affected by their own human weaknesses and desires. So the question remains: How do we move beyond all of this confusion and find the truth?

Notice something important: many of these opinions, ideas, and beliefs are directed toward us. They focus on how our lives can become better, how we can be saved, how we can overcome sin, and how we can escape the judgment of hell. I am not saying that these things are unimportant or that God does not accomplish these things through faith in Him. But when we approach faith only from this perspective, we can miss the greater truth. We place the illness before the remedy; we place our needs before our God.

Many beliefs attempt to convince people that Jesus exists by focusing on what He can do for them rather than who He truly is. It becomes a message centered on what we can receive instead of a revelation of the One we are called to know. It appeals to our desires and our flesh rather than leading us to encounter Jesus Himself. The focus shifts from the treasure to the benefits of possessing the treasure.

But Jesus is not merely a solution to our problems; He is the answer Himself. He is the One who reveals the truth of His own existence through His Word, His Spirit, and the transformation He brings to those who seek Him. He alone is the One who can save us. The starting point is not what Jesus can give us—it begins with discovering who Jesus is.

Evidence can lead us to the door of faith, but only Jesus can reveal Himself to us beyond that door. He alone has the answer that every searching heart is looking for. Many people point to Jesus as though He is simply a miracle remedy for a better life, but that is not where I want to point you. I want to point you to Jesus for who He is. Because if we only seek what He can give us and never seek Him Himself, we will never fully understand the treasure that He is.

You will never truly learn to walk by faith if your eyes remain fixed only on the gifts rather than the Giver. Jesus is the living water; He is life itself. He is love, truth, and the reason we exist. He loves perfectly, beautifully, and faithfully as only a Father can. He leads with compassion, wisdom, and care. He is humble, merciful, and full of grace—the God who willingly gave Himself for us.

Jesus does desire to change us, but He does not do so through condemnation. He transforms us through His love, calling us into a life that reflects His goodness.

If this truth alone does not draw you to Him, then you must ask yourself: What am I truly seeking? Am I seeking the real cure, the ultimate answer, or am I seeking a god created to satisfy my own desires? And if what you seek is truly the answer, then Jesus is the One who must reveal it to you.

Jesus can reveal that He is true and real, but it begins with surrender. It begins with laying down ourselves, giving Him our whole heart, and seeking Jesus not merely for what He offers, but for who He is.

The search for truth can become overwhelming because of the countless voices competing for our attention. But the answer is not found merely by discovering better arguments or choosing the most convincing opinion—it is found by encountering Jesus Himself. There is ultimately only one voice we must seek: the voice of truth. The destiny of our soul is at stake, and the only One we can truly place our trust in is the One we are seeking to find—the One who alone holds the answer.
