Who is Jesus?

A liar, a lunatic, a good teacher… or God?

There is strong historical evidence that Jesus Christ existed, coming from multiple sources—both Christian and non-Christian. Historians across the spectrum, including many secular scholars, widely agree that Jesus of Nazareth was a real historical person who lived in the first century.

So the question is not whether He existed.

The real question is: Who was He—and who is He?

Some argue that Jesus was merely a good moral teacher. However, that explanation quickly encounters a problem. Jesus did not merely teach moral principles; He made extraordinary claims about Himself. He claimed authority to forgive sins, spoke of God as His Father in a unique way, and openly accepted worship. In essence, He claimed to be God.

A truly wise and good teacher would not falsely claim to be God. If Jesus knowingly made such claims, He would be a liar. If He believed them, but they were not true, He would be a lunatic.

But another question must also be asked: how could someone whom so many people recognize as having profound wisdom and moral insight be a lunatic?

Jesus spoke with clarity and authority. His teachings have been admired across cultures and centuries. He remained calm under pressure, responded to challenges with reason and logic, and demonstrated deep emotional balance and compassion. It is difficult to reconcile such wisdom, composure, and insight with the idea of a man who was mentally unstable.

This leaves the possibility that He was a liar.

But that explanation also raises serious problems. Liars typically seek something in return—power, wealth, influence, or fame. Jesus gained none of these. He lived a humble life, owned little, and ultimately died the death of a criminal. He was not even liked by the people He tried to save. Nothing about His life suggests He was trying to deceive people for personal gain.

In fact, His teachings consistently emphasized truth, integrity, humility, and love—values that stand in direct opposition to deliberate deception.

Beyond this, the impact of His words has been profound. For over two thousand years, His teachings have transformed the lives of countless individuals and shaped societies around the world. Such lasting moral influence makes the idea that He was simply a deceiver difficult to sustain.

Another question must also be considered: how did Jesus appear to fulfill so many prophecies recorded in the Bible centuries before His birth?

This leaves us with the conclusion that Jesus is who He claimed to be—God incarnate.

But what does that mean?

This section seeks to explore who Jesus truly is and to understand why He spoke the way He did, why He lived the way He lived, and why He did the things recorded about Him. By examining His words, actions, and purpose, we can begin to see the deeper meaning behind His life and message. Only then can we begin to understand who Jesus really is.
