"Then he said to Jesus, “Lord, remember me when You come into Your kingdom.” And Jesus said to him, “Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise."

The End:
The Story Between Life and Death

Part 6

One day, Jesus will return to bring an end to all things. Those still trapped in this earthly prison, who have not turned from their sin, will face judgment. Their rejection of the truth will result in a life sentence in Hell, alongside Satan. These individuals had their opportunity to open their eyes to the reality of this world—that peace, answers, and salvation cannot be found within its confines.

But for those who recognized that this world is merely a temporary prison, a place to leave behind worldly desires, and who accepted God’s free gift of salvation, they will live forever with God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, and fellow believers as one united family—an eternal, glorious tree of life.

In the End

We are faced with two choices: we can write our own story, or we can choose to be part of God's greater story. The decision is ours to make. Both paths come with restrictions. They are confined within the walls of this world—a world filled with darkness, confusion, lies, and chaos. Because of this, both stories will include suffering, pain, heartache, and death. They unfold in a world consumed by greed, selfishness, emptiness, lust, covetousness, and temptation.

If we choose to write our own story, we face even greater limitations. Our story has no true foundation, no real purpose. Every chapter we write, every decision we make, every path we take—all are chosen without knowing where they will lead. And because our story must weave between countless others, all competing for space and direction, it can be stifled, altered, or even forced to change against our will.

Even so, we are free to write our own story within the walls of these restrictions. But there is one final reality we must consider—our story can only end in one of two ways.

If we write our story within the confines of unbelief, its final chapter will lead to nothing. It will be like watching a movie for two hours, waiting for meaning, only for the screen to fade to black as the credits roll—leaving you wondering what it was all for.

But if we view our story through the lens of God’s economy, the ending is far more tragic. The final chapter will be spent permanently confined to the darkness in which it was written. It will end in Hell. We will come to realize that Satan deceived us into thinking we could write our own story, only to discover that he is the one who is going to write the ending.

The Story God Invites You to Join

But there is another story—one God invites us to be part of.

God’s story is already written. It has a beginning, a foundation, a plan, and a purpose. It is the one true story that cuts through the countless narratives people try to write for themselves, piercing the darkness of this world and leading to light.

It is a story of love, redemption, grace, and eternal glory. It tells of soldiers who fought the good fight, ran the race of faith, and stored up treasures that will be rewarded in Heaven. It is a story built on the Gospel, with Christ as its foundation—our Savior who died so we might live.

It is a story of discovering a Father, a family, and God Himself. A journey to finding our true identity, our purpose, and a love that gives life meaning. It is living with His love flowing through us, shaping who we are. And unlike the fleeting endings of human stories, this story leads to a glorious conclusion—one of love, paradise, and eternal glory.

God allows us to write our own story, but in the end, it leads to death. He also invites us to become part of His story—a story that leads to life. But to step into His story, we must first surrender our own.

"In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. And where I go you know, and the way you know."
