Fix Your Eyes

The Christian Path

Fix Your Eyes

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.” ~ Hebrews 12:1-2

Life is filled with challenges—financial stress, family conflict, health issues, and work demands. At times, they feel overwhelming. But for Christians, the answer is clear:

Fix your eyes on Jesus and follow Him—problem solved!

Of course, it’s not always that easy. Many Christians fail to realize that our problems are only truly overcome through our sanctification walk with Jesus. Sanctification is the ongoing process of becoming more like Christ in thought, word, and deed, through the transforming power of the Holy Spirit.

The Sanctification Process

  • Justification — God declares the believer righteous through faith in Christ (Romans 5:1).
  • Renewal of the Mind — Aligning our thoughts with God’s truth (Romans 12:2).
  • Empowerment by the Holy Spirit — Growing in maturity and bearing fruit (Galatians 5:22-23).
  • Holiness — Living set apart for God’s purposes in purity and obedience (1 Peter 1:16).
  • Cooperation with God — Submitting to His will and obeying His commands (Philippians 2:12-13).
  • Final Perfection — Glorification in eternity, fully conformed to Christ’s image (1 John 3:2).
  • This process shapes us into Christ’s likeness, which transforms how we face life’s challenges. Our problems may not disappear, but they no longer defeat us.

    The Purpose of Trials

We live in a fallen world where suffering is inevitable (John 16:33). But our purpose is not to avoid hardship—it is to cultivate intimacy with Jesus, who enables us to endure and overcome. The goal is not to fix our problems but to fix our eyes on Jesus. When we do, both trials and triumphs lose their grip, as His presence becomes our strength and perspective.

    The Christian Soldier

Scripture reminds us that we are like soldiers in a spiritual war (2 Timothy 2:3-4). This reality shapes how sanctification works in daily life:

  • The soldier must be surrendered and committed to God.
  • The soldier must train through God’s Word, discipleship, and the fellowship of the church.
  • The soldier must bear fruit in the world, showing faith in each moment.
  • When the soldier falters, he must seek strength in Christ through prayer, Scripture, confession, and patience.
  • Through this process, God is shaping us into the likeness of the most victorious soldier of all—Jesus Christ.

    The Danger of Avoiding Battle

When Christians refuse to engage in the battle, they shrink inward, becoming consumed with personal struggles and desires. But our problems are not solved in retreat—they are resolved in the spiritual battle God has called us to fight. If Jesus is engaged in battle, we must stand with Him (Ephesians 6:10-11).

    Summary

  • Fix your eyes on Jesus—He is the solution, not the world.
  • Sanctification transforms how we face life’s problems.
  • Trials shape us, not destroy us, when endured with Christ.
  • We are soldiers in a spiritual battle, called to surrender and fight faithfully.
  • Avoiding the battle weakens faith; joining the fight brings victory.
  • “Fight the good fight of faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called.” ~ 1 Timothy 6:12
